December 15

Read: Luke 1:26-38

Wow! Talk about big news! Talk about a time that you or your family got news that was going to mean big changes. It could be news of a move or a sickness or some other big time change. How did you feel when you got that news?

After hundreds of years of waiting for the Messiah, Mary is told that Jesus is coming and she was going to be His mama. The baby was going to be the Son of God! How do you think she felt?

It is hard to have know what to think when we get scary news or when unexpected things happen. Mary had no idea what Jesus’s life was going to be like. We don’t know if she knew what He was going to grow up to do or that He was going to die for our sins. She didn’t know everything that was ahead, but she knew that God was in control of it. She had peace.

Lots of people don’t know this peace because they either don’t know Jesus or don’t remember to trust Him. They don’t remember that God is in control of whatever is ahead. Let’s remember, as the angel said, “Nothing is impossible with God.” And let’s respond like Mary, “I am the Lord’s servant.”

Pray: God spoke to the Old Testament prophets, but He can speak to us too. Put some quiet Christmas music on. Pray altogether and say, “God, we want to hear from You.” Then spend a few quiet minutes waiting and listening for Him to speak to your heart.

Do: Make some cookies, cards, or other Christmas treat and plan to deliver them to a local police station. Thank the officers for helping keep the peace and for helping people in tough situations.
